In a move aimed at bolstering labor migration between Uzbekistan and Qatar, a high-level meeting was convened at the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction. The delegation, led by Qatar's Minister of Labor, Ali bin Samikh al-Marri, engaged in discussions concerning the facilitation of labor force movement from Uzbekistan to Qatar.
The meeting primarily focused on streamlining the process of attracting, training, and dispatching Uzbek laborers to Qatar in an organized manner. This initiative follows the signing of the regulation of labor force employment in the state of Qatar agreement between the two nations in Samarkand on June 6, 2023.
During the deliberations, Minister al-Marri emphasized Qatar's substantial demand for foreign labor across various sectors, including medicine, education, IT, industrial processing, hospitality, and mass media. He underscored the challenge posed by the language barrier for prospective workers, highlighting the need for targeted training programs.
In response, Uzbekistan's Minister of Poverty Alleviation and Employment, Behzod Musayev, proposed leveraging existing expertise to address the language barrier effectively. The exchange of ideas culminated in a commitment to develop comprehensive training programs tailored to the needs of Uzbek labor migrants.
Minister al-Marri reassured attendees that Qatar is steadfast in safeguarding the rights of foreign workers, aligning with the objectives outlined in the "Qatar Vision - 2030" program. He outlined Qatar's commitment to providing social protection, medical insurance, and covering transportation and accommodation expenses for foreign workers. Moreover, a dedicated committee has been established to protect the rights of female workers abroad.
Looking ahead, both parties agreed to establish a joint commission between their respective ministries. The commission's forthcoming meeting in Qatar is anticipated to further solidify cooperation and pave the way for signing agreements to deepen bilateral ties in labor migration.
