Kazakhstan produced over 46,000 cars between January and April 2024, an 8% increase from the same period last year, Industry and Construction Minister Kanat Sharlapaev reports. "The mechanical engineering sector grew by 22%, with car production rising by 8.6%. Over 46,000 cars were produced, and we aim to produce 160,000 cars in 2024. Additionally, projects are underway in Kostanay and Almaty to produce 100,000 car seats, 150,000 plastic parts, and 100,000 multimedia systems," said Sharlapaev.
The railway engineering sector expanded significantly, with production increasing by 2.5 times due to the higher output of locomotives and railroad cars.
Kazakhstan's industrial production reached KZT 46.4 trillion (about $102.5 bn) from January to December 2023, a 4.3% increase from 2022. The mining and quarrying sector contributed KZT 21.7 trillion (around $48 bn), up 4.6% from 2022, making up 46.9% of total industrial production.
The manufacturing sector increased by 4.1% from 2022, totalling KZT 21.6 trillion ($47.7 bn) and accounting for 46.6% of total industrial production.
Meanwhile, 114,605 passenger cars were produced in Uzbekistan in 4M24, marking a 1.5 times increase compared to the same period last year, the State Statistics Agency reports. Despite initial plans to discontinue Lacetti production in April, there was a slight increase by March.
