Uzbekistan's car production soared by over 62% in the first quarter of 2024, Statistics Agency informed. With a total of 91,000 units manufactured, the country's automotive sector experienced a 50,7% boost compared to the same period last year.
Leading the production charge was the Chevrolet Cobalt model, with over 28,000 cars produced—a 59.5% increase year-on-year. However, production of Lacetti-Gentra cars declined by 21%, slated for complete cessation by April 2024.
Notably, the Onix model witnessed an extraordinary surge, increasing 15 times to 8,338 units, while the Tracker model saw production soar over seven times to 12,205 units. Additionally, KIA and Chery contributed 5,000 and 3,000 cars, respectively.
Although newer models like Haval and Exeed saw minimal production, passenger special vehicles slightly increased to 6,317 units.
However, sales of passenger cars recorded a significant downturn, totaling 96,500 units, marking a 12.1% decrease compared to the previous month.
In the primary passenger car market, sales witnessed a decline of 16.7% in March, reaching slightly over 24,000 cars. However, despite the monthly drop, this segment experienced a marginal 0.2% growth compared to the previous year. Sales of domestic passenger cars within this category decreased by 17.2%, amounting to 19,540 units.
Secondary market sales also saw a decrease, with a 10.6% decline observed in March. The total number of used cars sold during the month stood at 74,600 units, reflecting a more substantial 16% decline year-on-year.
