Tajikistan saw a 7.1% increase in agricultural output, reaching TJS 5.1bn ($473mn) in the first four months of 2024 compared to the same period last year, the presidential press service reported.
On May 25, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan convened a meeting in the Danghara district with leaders and activists from Khatlon Province, addressing a spectrum of pressing issues ranging from agricultural stability to disaster management and economic growth.
The discussion revolved around bolstering the agricultural sector's resilience in the face of climatic shifts and ensuring sustainable water and land utilization. President Rahmon emphasized the imperative of harnessing all available resources to fortify Tajikistan's economy against external shocks while prioritizing food security.
President Rahmon stressed untapped potential within the agricultural sector, urging comprehensive strategies for crop cultivation, land utilization, and productivity enhancement.
Khatlon Province emerged as a focal point, with its substantial potential in fruit and vegetable exports yet to be fully realized. Urgent directives were issued to ensure consistent supply to the domestic market and enhance export capabilities.
Natural disasters, including recent floods and landslides, prompted a call for coordinated efforts to mitigate environmental risks and provide aid to affected communities. President Rahmon mandated swift action from provincial authorities in collaboration with relevant ministries to address aftermaths and enhance disaster preparedness.
Emphasizing strategic investments, President Rahmon highlighted 44 ongoing state projects in Khatlon Province, spanning education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and tourism. He stressed the need for increased domestic and foreign investments to fuel industrial growth, create employment opportunities, and modernize infrastructure.
Digital transformation emerged as a priority, with directives to expedite the digitization of the national economy. President Rahmon highlighted the ongoing improvements in education and healthcare while urging targeted measures to address remaining challenges, including the shortage of medical personnel and infrastructure inadequacies.
In commemoration of Tajikistan's 35th anniversary of state independence, plans for constructing and renovating over 28,000 industrial and social facilities, including 6,260 in Khatlon Province, were outlined. Stringent adherence to construction standards and architectural excellence was emphasized for timely and high-quality implementation.
The meeting culminated in comprehensive reports from provincial leaders, detailing socio-economic progress and receiving directives for revitalized efforts across various sectors. President Rahmon's engagement underscored a proactive approach to tackling imminent challenges and maximizing opportunities for sustainable development.
Throughout the deliberations, President Rahmon reiterated the importance of youth education and resilience against extremist ideologies, emphasizing the role of community leaders and religious servants in guiding the younger generation towards constructive paths.
