Tajikistan and Uzbekistan aim to boost their mutual trade turnover to $2 bn, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Tajikistan to Uzbekistan, Abdujabbor Aziz Rakhmonzoda reports. In a conversation with Daryo.uz, he discussed the development of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, attributing the growth to the policies of Presidents Emomali Rahmon and Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Ambassador Rakhmonzoda noted the recent visit by Uzbekistan's President to Tajikistan, resulting in 28 agreements. These agreements aim to increase mutual trade turnover to $2 bn, including through the establishment of cross-border trade zones.
In 2023, mutual trade between the two nations increased by 11.8% compared to 2022, reaching almost $757 mn. This indicates strengthening economic ties between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Our main exports to Uzbekistan are cement and aluminium. From Uzbekistan, we mainly import fertilisers and a wide range of household goods produced in the country. This applies to all kinds of household goods,
- the ambassador emphasised.
Over 370 joint ventures operate between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Notable examples include Zelal-teks in Khujand, which produces yarn and textiles, and Artel in Dushanbe, which manufactures household appliances. These ventures reflect the economic cooperation between the two countries.
