Trek, a prominent manufacturer of sports shoes and tourist equipment based in Perm, has recently expanded its operations by opening new production facilities both in Uzbekistan and in the Perm region, Kommersant reported.
The company's investment in establishing these new production sites amounted to over 50 mn rubles ($544,000) in 2023. Not only did this initiative create numerous employment opportunities in the Kama region, but it also marked Trek's foray into the Uzbek market. Alexey Tarasenko, the general director of Trek, highlighted the significant growth in the company's workforce, which surged from 374 employees in December 2022 to 542 by December 2023.
The expansion efforts, including the opening of new production points, modernization of existing facilities, and expansion of the personnel base, had a substantial impact on Trek's financial performance in 2023. According to data from the SPARK-Interfax database, the company reported a drastic decrease in profits, amounting to 190 thousand rubles, compared to 101 mn rubles (over $1 mn) the previous year. However, despite this decline, Trek's revenue remained relatively stable at 1.1 bn rubles (around $12 mn), slightly lower than the previous year's 1.2 billion rubles ($13 mn). Moreover, management expenses surged by 108% compared to the previous year, reaching 111.4 mn rubles ($1.2 mn).
Evgeny Kategov, Director of the Public Relations Department at Trek, emphasized the company's commitment to enhancing production capacity. He highlighted the notable increase in footwear production, from 300,000 pairs in 2022 to the projected 400,000 pairs in 2023. Kategov also underlined Trek's innovative strides, such as the development of centipede football boots and special Arctic shoes, making it the first company in Russia to do so. These advancements required an investment of approximately 15 mn rubles ($163,200) in acquiring suitable equipment.
Trek operates under the umbrella of the A.V.T.-Sport holding, led by Perm entrepreneur Alexey Tarasenko, specializing in the production of tourist and sports shoes.
