President of Uzbekistan recently met with Péter Szijjártó, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary. Szijjártó, who was in Uzbekistan to participate in the activities of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, conveyed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's greetings and congratulations on the success of the third Tashkent investment forum, presidential press service reported.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed various aspects of the bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and Hungary. They expressed satisfaction with the consistent strengthening of the strategic partnership between the two nations and the rapid development of practical relations.
Both parties highlighted the active dialogues taking place at all levels, leading to a doubling of trade volume in recent years and an increase in the number of joint projects and enterprises. The discussion encompassed various sectors, including industry, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, fisheries, logistics, and real estate construction, underscoring the importance of launching a special economic zone for Hungarian and European companies in the Tashkent region at the earliest opportunity.
Furthermore, the meeting addressed the expansion of humanitarian exchange, with Uzbek students pursuing studies in leading Hungarian higher education institutions.
The leaders also exchanged views on cooperation within international and regional organizations, particularly emphasizing collaboration within the Organization of Turkic States.
Earlier Daryo reported that Uzbekistan seeks to strengthen its air traffic connections with an important European ally by endorsing the agreement with Hungary. As per a recent update from March 20, a presidential decision has been made to ratify an international agreement. This decision concerns the agreement on air traffic between the Uzbekistan government and Hungary, officially signed on August 19, 2023, in Budapest.
