Azerbaijan aims to start supplying oil products to Kyrgyzstan, according to Kyrgyz Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev's statements to the local media. This move involves Azerbaijan, noted as a major oil exporter, in a new partnership with Kyrgyzstan.
The upcoming operation of the Junda oil refinery in Kyrgyzstan aims to process over 1 mn tons of petroleum annually. In discussions about this development, Minister Ibraev pointed out ongoing dialogues with SOCAR, the state oil company of Azerbaijan, which has shown readiness to support the refinery’s oil supply needs.
The logistical aspects of oil transportation are currently being addressed to enable this new supply channel. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on April 24 between the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan and the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, highlighting the logistical planning and collaborative efforts.
The agreement extends beyond immediate trade, including joint exploration and development of oil fields in both countries, trade in oil and oil products, and collaboration in renewable energy and hydropower sectors.
