The Kazakh authorities declared their readiness to assist Afghanistan in developing two significant railway transport corridors, the Press Service of the Government of Kazakhstan reports. This intention was disclosed during the visit of Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin to Afghanistan, underlining a collaborative approach to regional infrastructure enhancement.
Kazakhstan will participate in the construction of the Trans-Afghan railway, which is planned to extend from Termez to Peshawar, and the Herat-Kandahar-Spin-Buldak railway corridor. The commitment includes supplying the necessary materials for building these railway lines, aimed at improving logistical connectivity.
The governments of Kazakhstan and Afghanistan are also preparing to reinstate regular flight operations, facilitating easier travel and fostering economic links between the two countries.
An office in Tashkent was established to coordinate the construction of the Trans-Afghan railway. The project, attracting international interest from entities such as Qatar, is projected to require an investment of $5 bn. This investment underscores the scale of the initiative and its expected role in enhancing the regional transportation network.
