Russian construction materials producer Technonikol commenced the construction of a new $124.5 mn manufacturing facility in the Saran industrial zone, located 20 kilometres from Karaganda, Kazakhstan. Scheduled to begin operations in April 2026, this site is Technonikol's third manufacturing facility in Kazakhstan, adding to two insulation material facilities currently under construction in the Almaty region.
Sergey Kolesnikov, co-owner of Technonikol, stated that the establishment of the third plant in Kazakhstan aligns with their business development strategy. He noted Kazakhstan's rapid economic growth and increased domestic demand for construction materials. Kolesnikov also pointed to Kazakhstan's strategic position as a trading centre among Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, China, and Mongolia, which offers extensive export opportunities.
The new facility will produce stone wool, used for thermal and sound insulation in various building applications such as roofs, façades, floors, and internal partitions. This material is also suitable for use in sandwich panels and technical insulation. The plant aims to allocate 70% of its production to the domestic market in Kazakhstan, with the remaining 30% designated for export to neighbouring countries. The operational phase of the plant will create 180 direct jobs and roughly 1,500 indirect jobs through associated contracting organizations.
Vasily Tkachev, an executive manager at Technonikol, reported that land acquisition and preliminary design work are in progress, with key specialists already hired. Contracts for engineering and equipment have been signed, with pre-construction activities and land work expected to commence by year-end.
Technonikol, established in 1992 by Sergey Kolesnikov and Igor Rybakov, is a prominent producer of roofing, waterproofing, and thermal insulation materials in Russia. Despite sanctions imposed by Poland in May 2023 related to the owners' business activities, the company has recently divested its manufacturing sites in the U.K. and is engaged in litigation around its facility in Poland. However, Technonikol has confirmed there are no plans to divest its operations in Lithuania, Germany, and Italy, where facilities continue to operate independently.
Additionally, in March 2024, Technonikol announced plans to triple its investments in stone wool manufacturing in both Russia and Kazakhstan, highlighting its commitment to enhancing production capabilities and securing its market position in the region.
