The total sales of all cars in Uzbekistan surpassed 109,000 units in March, marking a 5.8% decrease in the car market compared to the previous period, the Centre for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) reports. Sales of passenger cars saw a notable decline, totalling 96,500 units, reflecting a 12.1% decrease compared to the preceding month.
The primary market for passenger cars witnessed a downturn, with sales dropping by 16.7% in March, reaching just over 24,000 cars. However, despite the monthly decline, this segment of the car market experienced a marginal growth of 0.2% compared to the previous year. Sales of domestic passenger cars within this segment decreased by 17.2%, totalling 19,540 units.
Sales in the secondary market also saw a decline, with a 10.6% decrease observed in March. The total number of used cars sold during the month amounted to 74,600 units. Y/y comparison revealed a more substantial decline of 16%.
Sales of foreign cars experienced a decline of 13.7% in March, with the total number of foreign cars sold amounting to 2,300 units. This marks a 20% decrease compared to the same period last year.
Despite the overall market contraction, sales of new electric passenger cars saw a marginal increase of only 0.1% in March. However, on a y/y basis, electric car sales surged by 2.4 times, indicating a growing interest in electric vehicles among consumers in Uzbekistan.
