The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) launched a new endeavour aimed at bolstering economic prospects in Tajikistan, the U.S. Embassy in Tajikistan reports. USAID's latest initiative, the Employment and Enterprise Development Activity (EEDA) spanning five years with a budget of $18 mn, seeks to stimulate sustainable growth and inclusive economic opportunities in Tajikistan.
EEDA is poised to collaborate with enterprises to enhance productivity in key sectors such as textiles, food processing, and IT. This will be achieved through the adoption of innovative and eco-friendly technologies, augmented investment, and strengthened market connections. The initiative anticipates the creation of 5,000 permanent jobs, the facilitation of 200 business startups in accessing financial resources, and the leveraging of $10 mn in private sector investment.
During the inauguration, Peter Riley, Mission Director of USAID Tajikistan, emphasized the imperative of fostering innovation, driving economic expansion, and fostering sustainable employment within both public and private domains. He underscored the shared objective of advancing Tajikistan's economic landscape for the prosperity of all stakeholders.
The Tajikistan Employment and Enterprise Development Activity (EEDA), funded by USAID and implemented by ACDI/VOCA over five years, adopts an inclusive market systems (IMS) approach. Its core aims include enhancing market-driven sales and fostering inclusive, sustainable employment and livelihoods for Tajik households. This is to be achieved by empowering Tajik businesses to deliver superior quality and consistently competitive goods and services.
