Korea-Uzbekistan educational collaboration: grant program offers opportunities for Uzbek students

In a stride towards fostering educational collaboration between Uzbekistan and Korea, a delegation led by Governor Kim Young-hwan of Chungcheongbuk-do Province in the Republic of Korea met with Uzbekistan's Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, Kongratbay Sharipov. The primary agenda of the meeting was to explore avenues for enhancing cooperation in the realm of education .

Minister Sharipov underscored the existing close ties between five higher education institutions in Uzbekistan and seven universities in Korea. He emphasized the need for introducing new initiatives aimed at strengthening these ties, particularly through the establishment of joint educational programs offering bachelor's and master's degrees.

Governor Kim Young-hwan commended Uzbekistan's abundant human resources, noting that the country has increasingly attracted the attention of many nations. He proposed further cooperation to effectively utilize this resource and to foster the training of high-quality specialists.

Highlighting the industrial prowess of Chungcheongbuk-do Province, Governor Kim outlined its developments in various sectors, including manufacturers of batteries for electric vehicles, solar panels, semiconductors, biopharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. He stressed the necessity of training engineers to meet the demands of these bourgeoning industries.

In line with this vision, Governor Kim proposed the introduction of a program to train Uzbek students on a grant basis, offering them accommodation and opportunities for additional work during their studies in the province. Hwang Yun Won, the rector of Jungwon University, and a member of the Korean delegation, disclosed that his institution has 2,000 vacancies in fully-equipped student accommodations and is eager to welcome students and doctoral candidates from Uzbekistan.

Eligibility criteria for participation in the program include proficiency in English or Korean, good academic performance, and exemplary character. The program aims to provide students with modern knowledge and skills while facilitating their integration into the workforce.
