President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan received a delegation led by Wang Xiaohong, Minister of Public Security and member of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, on April 1. Wang's visit to Uzbekistan was part of the agreements reached during a high-level meeting held in January of the same year, presidential press service of Uzbekistan informed.
During the meeting, Wang Xiaohong expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended to him and conveyed the greetings and best wishes of President Xi Jinping of China. Discussions primarily revolved around expanding practical cooperation and coordinating joint efforts in combating modern security threats.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized the current level of friendship and strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and China, highlighting opportunities for effective inter-agency cooperation in law enforcement. Priority areas of cooperation included sharing experiences, organizing joint events, leveraging modern information technologies, combating cybercrime, and training qualified specialists.
The meeting also included discussions on regional cooperation, reflecting a mutual commitment to promoting stability and prosperity in Central Asia.
Earlier Daryo reported that China leads Uzbekistan's foreign trade partnerships with a turnover of $2.1 bn, topping the list of top 10 trading partners.
The meeting between President Xi Jinping of China and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan in January 2024, saw the announcement of the elevation of bilateral relations to an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership for a new era. This decision reflects the strong historical ties between the two nations, with Uzbekistan being the first Central Asian country to establish diplomatic relations with China 32 years ago. Both leaders emphasized mutual trust and cooperation in various fields, including trade, economy, infrastructure, and regional security. The signing of a Joint Statement on the All-Weather Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for a New Era and several cooperation agreements further solidified their commitment to deepening bilateral ties and promoting regional stability and prosperity.
