The Statistics Agency of Uzbekistan has reported a surge in foreign investment in the country, with the creation of 544 new enterprises during the period from January to February 2024.
Sectoral Distribution
The newly established enterprises span a diverse range of sectors, with the trade sector leading the way with 234 companies. Following closely behind is the industrial sector, with 84 new enterprises, indicating a strong focus on manufacturing and production.
In the field of information and communications, 47 organizations with foreign capital have been established, highlighting the growing importance of technology and digital services in Uzbekistan's economy.
Breakdown by Economic Activity
The enterprises were distributed across various economic activities as follows:
- Trade: 234 enterprises
- Industry: 84 enterprises
- Information and Communications: 47 enterprises
- Construction: 39 enterprises
- Accommodation and Catering Services: 28 enterprises
- Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing: 15 enterprises
- Transportation and Storage: 12 enterprises
- Health and Social Services: 6 enterprises
- Other Areas: 79 enterprises
Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan attracted a substantial influx of foreign investments amounting to $22.4 bn in 2023, signifying a growth trajectory. $19.5 bn of these investments were in the form of direct foreign investments and loans, marking a notable increase of 193%. The launch of 306 projects under the state investment program contributed to the creation of over 56,000 new jobs, fostering economic development and prosperity.
