Uzbekistan is setting ambitious goals to position itself as a leading IT hub in Central Asia by 2030, as per to the National Development Strategy. The country aims to significantly increase the export of IT services, attract foreign IT companies, and create employment opportunities in the IT sector, Wold Bank Uzbekistan reports on March 19.
By the end of the decade, Uzbekistan plans to achieve several milestones:
- Increase the annual export of IT services to $5 bn
- Attract 1,000 foreign IT companies to establish businesses in the country
- Provide employment opportunities to 300,000 young people in the IT sector
To support these efforts, the World Bank is collaborating with the Ministry of Digital Technologies in financing the "Digital Inclusion in Uzbekistan" project. This initiative, to be implemented by IT-Park, aims to train thousands of individuals under the age of 30 residing in rural and remote areas across Uzbekistan. The project will also incentivize IT companies to hire young people who have completed the training program.
The opening of Uzbekistan's first Offshore Outsourcing Tour marks a significant step towards achieving these goals. The event, attended by representatives from over 30 countries, showcased the opportunities available for starting businesses in Tashkent and other regions of the country through IT-Park.
During the event on March 18, Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov and Marco Mantovanelli, the head of the World Bank representative office in Uzbekistan, emphasized the potential of Uzbekistan's rapidly growing IT sector. Mantovanelli highlighted why investors should consider investing in Uzbekistan's digital economy and outlined the support provided by the World Bank to the government in this endeavor.
