A wind farm with a capacity of 500 MW would be constructed in the Kungrad district of Karakalpakstan, the National Database of Legislation of Uzbekistan announced on March 5, 2024. The project will also include the construction of power lines. It will be implemented by Saudi Arabian ACWA Power company. The construction of the power plant is expected to attract direct foreign investment amounting to $682 mn. An agreement will be signed with National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan for the purchase of electricity produced at the new power plant in Karakalpakstan for 25 years.
ACWA Power will also commence the construction of a 200 MW wind power plant and a 100 MW energy storage system in the Beruniy and Karauziak districts of the autonomous republic. Furthermore, ACWA Power is implementing a 300 MW wind farm project in the Bukhara region.
The document outlines the wind farm's planning, financing, construction, and operation throughout the project. It is anticipated to attract foreign direct investment of $403 mn, with the possibility of risk assumption.
Earlier, Daryo reported that a $62 mn investment project has been launched in Uzbekistan with the goal of creating green hydrogen production facilities. This project is a collaborative effort between Maxam-Chirchik, a leading player in Uzbekistan’s industrial sector, and ACWA Power Uzbekistan Hydrogen Holdings, a branch of the respected Saudi Arabian ACWA Power company.
The joint venture, known as “ACWA Power UKS Green H2”, is currently planning the construction of a green hydrogen production plant. This facility will be built in conjunction with a wind power facility in the Gijduvon district of the Bukhara region.
