Uzbekistan toughens penalties for distributing drugs online
The lower house of parliament in Uzbekistan has convened to discuss a bill aimed at combating the illicit trafficking of drugs, as reported by the press service of the parliament on March 5. In response to the growing challenges posed by drug trafficking, the country has been steadfast in implementing systematic measures to curb the spread of narcotic drugs, their analogues, psychotropic substances, and potent substances.
In response to these emerging challenges, the proposed bill aims to strengthen penalties for individuals involved in the illegal trafficking of drugs using telecommunication networks and the internet. Additionally, heightened sanctions are proposed for offenses committed with the involvement of minors.
Furthermore, the bill introduces provisions for both administrative and criminal liability concerning the illegal acquisition, storage, transportation, or transfer of narcotic drugs, their analogues, psychotropic substances, and potent toxic substances, even in cases where the intent is not for sale.
Earlier Daryo reported that Kazakhstan is positioned 8th in global drug consumption, while Uzbekistan holds the 95th spot.
