Uzbekistan unveils plans for $1.5 bn Yangi Avlod industrial zone

Uzbekistan unveils plans for $1.5 bn Yangi Avlod industrial zone

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan was briefed on draft documents outlining the development of various sectors, including industry, services, and infrastructure in Tashkent, during a meeting held on February 27. These initiatives are part of the state program aimed at implementing the "Uzbekistan-2030" strategy, with a focus on supporting youth and businesses.

The state program, aligned with the "Year of Youth and Business Support," outlines goals and objectives such as fostering entrepreneurship, ensuring efficient use of water and natural resources, tapping into the tourism potential of different regions, improving housing conditions, and enhancing urban infrastructure.

The meeting addressed the organization of work in Tashkent to advance these objectives. Notably, the establishment of the "Tashkent Investment Company" as a joint-stock company was highlighted. This entity is tasked with facilitating investment projects and public-private partnerships, particularly renovation projects on vacant land plots.

In this context, simplified procedures for implementing public-private partnership projects, renovation projects, and cooperation based on "lifetime contracts" were approved.

A presentation was made on the "Yangi Avlod" special industrial zone, slated to be set up to boost the industrial potential of the Yangihayot district and foster production based on high technologies. The industrial zone, spanning 664.5 hectares, aims to attract $1.5 bn in foreign direct investments, create 2,5000 new jobs, produce industrial goods worth over UZS 1 trillion ($80 mn), and generate $5 mn in exports in the coming years.

The meeting also discussed proposals for enhancing tourism services and infrastructure in Tashkent. A program of measures is planned for implementation in various districts of the capital, including Mirabad, Almazor, Chilonzor, Uchtepa, Shaikhontohur, Yunusabad, Yakkasaroy, and Yashnabad. This program entails the creation of "gastronomic tourism" and "artisans" streets, construction of modern trade and service facilities, hotels, and the development of green and recreational areas along canals.

Efforts to organize work at the neighborhood level, identify growth points, specialize in specific activities, and leverage the "Andijan experience" in greening areas were emphasized.

President Mirziyoyev approved the proposed documents and initiatives and assigned tasks to officials to ensure their quality implementation and efficient organization.
