Uzbekistan is set to introduce a new practice of evaluating the effectiveness of laws five years post-adoption. This initiative, decreed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, will commence in March 2024.
Starting in the upcoming spring, information about the development of regulations will be made available for online discussions on the Regulation.gov.uz portal.
Regulatory legal acts within Uzbekistan undergo scrutiny for elements of corruption. The Anti-Corruption Agency, and the Ministry of Justice, among other agencies, are tasked with this responsibility. Public organisations, media outlets, and mahalla representatives have the opportunity to contribute suggestions regarding the content of laws.
Earlier, it was reported that the Senate of the Oliy Majlis ratified the law “On ratification of the treaty between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on mutual legal assistance in criminal cases”. This document outlines the terms for providing legal assistance during criminal case investigations. It details the format of relevant requests, reasons for refusal of support, defence strategies, and security assurances for defendants.
The Senate expressed that the ratification of this treaty between Uzbekistan and Vietnam is expected to enhance the efficiency of the law enforcement agencies in both countries.
