At the end of January, People Consulting undertook a survey aimed at assessing the appeal of various employers in Kazakhstan's IT industry, drawing responses from 503 individuals, including developers, product managers, HR professionals, and senior management personnel. The survey revealed insights into the preferences and perceptions of IT professionals regarding potential employers, Digital Business reported on February 15.
Yandex emerged as the top-ranked employer, with 63% of respondents expressing interest in working there. Following closely were Kolesa Group (55%) and Air Astana (54%). Conversely, Kazakhtelecom led the "antitop," with 69% of respondents indicating they would not consider working there. Otbasy Bank and Eurasian Bank followed closely, both with disapproval rates of 65%. Altyn Bank (58%) and Halyk Bank (55%) also featured prominently among the least favored employers.
Arman Shokparov, a partner at People Consulting, explained the methodology behind the survey. Respondents were asked a single question regarding their willingness to work for each company, with responses categorized into six options. Rankings were then determined based on the percentage of positive and negative responses.
The survey also explored the factors influencing job seekers' decisions. Recommendations and reviews from current or former employees were cited as the most influential information source by 45% of respondents. Salary level emerged as the most critical consideration, highlighted by 81% of respondents, followed by factors such as team dynamics, professional growth opportunities, engaging projects, and remote work options.
Reflecting on the findings, Ardak Mametzhanova, another author of the survey, emphasized the importance of internal company ambassadors and consistency between advertised values and company culture.
