During his state visit to China, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan visited the headquarters of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to engage in discussions with the bank's president, Jin Lixun, Uzbekistan's presidential press service reported on January 24.
The meeting focused on current issues surrounding the expansion of the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the AIIB, a prominent international financial institution.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of increasing funding for deep processing projects related to strategic raw materials and the implementation of socially significant programs through public-private partnerships. The discussions also delved into the joint cooperation program, outlining priority projects to be implemented until 2026 as part of Uzbekistan's ongoing structural reforms. A key focus of the talks was on supporting strategically important infrastructural projects in the Central Asian region.
Additionally, practical aspects related to the preparation for the AIIB's upcoming annual meeting of the Board of Directors in September, scheduled to take place in Samarkand, were addressed.
As the discussions concluded, both parties affirmed their dedication to the successful implementation of joint initiatives.
Earlier Daryo reported that Prime Minister Li Qiang recognized the exceptional advancement of relations between Uzbekistan and China in diverse areas, attributing this achievement to the shared political determination and cooperative endeavors of the leaders of both nations. Trade between the two countries experienced an unprecedented 50% surge last year, reaching a historic $14 bn. Both leaders expressed confidence in the potential to elevate this figure to $20 bn, highlighting the increased reciprocal provision of high-quality industrial and agricultural products.
