In a significant move towards agricultural development, a United Arab Emirates (UAE) company has expressed its intent to invest $30 mn in a project aimed at cultivating berries in the Andijan region, as per to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture's press service.
Collaborating with the Agency for Agricultural Services under the Ministry of Agriculture, the Emirati company will join forces to establish a vast 470-hectare garden in the Pakhtaabad district. The initial phase of the project is set to focus on cultivating blueberries in pots over a 20-hectare area, equipped with an efficient drip irrigation system.
The comprehensive project envisions not only the cultivation of blueberries but also the expansion into raspberries and various vegetable products in subsequent stages.
The cultivation strategy, with an estimated 4,000 bushes planted per hectare, anticipates an impressive yield of 400-500 tons on average. To shield the berries from the impact of heat, specialized nets will be strategically installed, ensuring optimal growing conditions.
The endeavor takes shape following the visit of Saeed al-Bahri and Salim al-Ameri, executives from the Emirati company E20 Investment, to Uzbekistan in November. During the visit, it was revealed that the company is planning to establish an agricultural cluster in the Andijan region, incorporating a berry plantation alongside fisheries.
Earlier Daryo reported that UAE investments in Uzbekistan have also witnessed significant expansion, with the number of enterprises featuring UAE involvement growing 2.5 times in the last five years. The "Green" portfolio, encompassing investment projects in sectors like energy, agriculture, transportation, logistics, and tourism infrastructure, has now exceeded $4 bn.
