In a recent meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan in Moscow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Denis Manturov, expressed Russia's commitment to strengthening industrial ties with Uzbekistan. Manturov highlighted Russia's significant role as a key investor in Uzbekistan's economy, with Russian companies having invested over 1.2 trillion rubles (approximately $13.37bn).
The collaborative efforts between the two nations extend to various projects, including the establishment of a metallurgical cluster based on the Tebinbulak deposit, the construction of a copper processing plant at the facilities of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex (Almalyk MMC), the development of a gas chemical complex in the Bukhara region, and the creation of thermal power plants.
Manturov emphasized the joint initiatives, driven by Uzbekistan, to create industrial parks in strategic locations. Notably, industrial parks have already been established in Chirchik and the Jizzakh region, contributing to the overall enhancement of industrial cooperation. The plan is to replicate this successful practice in Navoi, Bukhara, and Samarkand regions, according to the deputy chairman of the Russian government.
The 24th meeting of the intergovernmental commission witnessed the participation of Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Khojaev, who highlighted the fruitful interactions between the industry ministries and departments of both countries. He underscored the positive outcomes of events like the exhibition "Innoprom. Central Asia" in Tashkent and the third interregional forum in Kazan, which served as productive platforms for fostering ties between business circles, manufacturers, and regions of Russia and Uzbekistan.
Addressing cooperation in the financial and banking sector, Khojaev expressed Uzbekistan's readiness to activate mechanisms for mutual settlements in the national currencies of both countries, aligning with the interests of both parties.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Federal Corporation for the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises and the Business Development Bank of Uzbekistan. The memorandum focuses on industrial cooperation and the integration of digital systems, signaling a commitment to further collaboration between the two nations in these areas.
