In a stride toward enhancing agricultural practices and fostering sustainable cotton production, a pivotal meeting transpired between Uzbekistan's Minister of Agriculture, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, and representatives from the Swiss company, "Better Cotton Initiative" (BCI), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reported.
The meeting delved into crucial matters surrounding the implementation of BCI's global expertise in cotton production, aiming to propel the development of the cotton industry in Uzbekistan. Both parties explored avenues for establishing bilateral cooperation and crafting future programs geared towards the training of scientists in various scientific research institutes.
Noteworthy is the international standing of the "Better Cotton Initiative," an association founded in 2009, currently operational in 22 countries worldwide, including Uzbekistan. The initiative actively supports the endeavors of over 2.8 mn farmers globally. This global initiative attained official recognition in Uzbekistan, with the Ministry of Justice registering the "Better Cotton Initiative" on May 30, 2023.
Operating through a network of five representative offices and branches spanning Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, the Better Cotton Initiative has fostered collaborations with diverse organizations focusing on healthcare, resource conservation, and legal services.
The outcomes of the discussions culminated in a consensus on practical aspects that paved the way for effective and constructive collaboration.
