The newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan, Farrukh Tursunov, arrived in Spain on December 7, marking the beginning of his diplomatic mission in the European nation, Dunyo reported. A seasoned diplomat and strategic analyst, Tursunov brings a wealth of experience to his new role, aiming to further enhance the diplomatic relationship between Uzbekistan and Spain.
At 50 years old, Farrukh Tursunov is a graduate of the Tashkent State Economic University and the Higher School of Analysis and Forecasting. His career has been deeply rooted in the diplomatic landscape, with notable roles in the Security Council under the President of Uzbekistan and a longstanding tenure within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1994.
Tursunov's journey within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has seen him ascend through various positions, from attaché to department director. His international diplomatic experience includes leading the Uzbek embassies in Kazakhstan from 2008 to 2012 and in Japan from 2012 to 2017. Since 2018, Tursunov has been at the helm of the Main Directorate of Strategic Analysis and Forecasting, along with overseeing the Consolidated Information and Analytical Department.
The seasoned diplomat takes over from Jakhongir Ganiev, who served as the head of the Uzbek diplomatic mission in Madrid since 2017.
Uzbekistan-Spain Relations: A Stalwart Partnership
The change in leadership comes at a time when Uzbekistan and Spain continue to foster their diplomatic ties. In 2022, the two nations celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Uzbekistan recognizes Spain as a country with substantial industrial, scientific-technical, cultural, and intellectual potential, viewing it as a reliable and friendly partner within the European Union.
A notable event in the recent history of bilateral collaboration was the Uzbek-Spanish business forum held in March 2023, at the International Hotel Tashkent. The forum, organized by the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Tourism of Spain, brought together high-ranking officials and representatives from over 100 leading companies of both countries.
During the forum, agreements were reached in crucial areas, including water resources management and the construction of hydrotreating facilities across various regions of Uzbekistan. The business forum facilitated B2B negotiations, providing entrepreneurs and investors with the opportunity to explore shared interests and discuss promising projects in sectors such as food production, green energy, and construction materials.
