The International Symposium "Bobojon Gafurov - the greatest researcher and presenter of the history of the Tajik people" was held on the occasion of the 115th birth anniversary of Academician Bobojon Gafurov. The distinguished event was attended by the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, the president's press service reported.
The President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tajikistan, Farhod Rahimi, commenced the symposium with an opening speech, setting the stage for an insightful exploration of Academician Gafurov's contributions. President Rahmon, in his address, extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of Tajikistan and the participants, recognizing the great academician's profound impact on the nation.
President Emomali Rahmon lauded the significant role played by Bobojon Gafurov in shaping Tajikistan's economic and social landscape. The president highlighted Gafurov's instrumental role in advancing modern science, culture, and oriental studies during the 20th century. Gafurov devoted his life to researching the traditions of Tajik statehood, delving into the nation's history spanning thousands of years, and examining the Tajiks' historical significance in science, literature, culture, and human civilization.
In acknowledgment of Gafurov's exceptional contributions, he was awarded the esteemed title of "Hero of Tajikistan" on September 8, 1997, by presidential decree. President Rahmon emphasized the symposium's significance as a gesture of appreciation for Gafurov's invaluable services to the Tajik people and the state.
President Rahmon delved into the exemplary life and productive activities of Academician Gafurov, noting his continuous support for and engagement with scientists and writers. Gafurov's comprehensive study of the history and civilization of Tajiks, particularly his seminal work "A Brief History of the Tajik People," was highlighted as a cornerstone in the development of Tajik science and culture.
The president underscored the importance of Gafurov's masterpiece, "Tojikon" (The Tajiks), as a detailed historical account of the Tajik nation, incorporating archaeological materials, literary works, and research from renowned scientists worldwide. President Rahmon declared "Tojikon" a personal book for every educated and honorable Tajik, reflecting on the depth and richness of Tajik history.
In a landmark announcement, President Rahmon instructed the government to explore the establishment of the State Award named after Academician Bobojon Gafurov, recognizing achievements in researching Tajik history, archeology, ethnology, oriental studies, and the promotion of Tajik culture on the international stage. Additionally, he directed the publication of "Shahnameh" by Abulqosim Firdavsi, making it accessible to all Tajik citizens to further disseminate knowledge about their history, culture, and civilization.
President Rahmon concluded his address by affirming the government's commitment to honoring and preserving the legacies of Tajikistan's great figures, using the nation's rich heritage for unity, pride, and prosperity.
The symposium featured contributions from international experts, including Vitaly Naumkin, Szin Sze, Hasan Bukhari, Francis Richard, Navshohi Arif, Ibrahim Istambuli, and Davlatzoda Shoirai Karomatullo.
