In a move towards environmental sustainability, Uzbekistan is set to implement a recycling fee for the production and import of car tires, effective from July 1, 2024. Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, Ahadbek Khaidarov, emphasized that local producers will not receive exemptions from this fee.
As outlined in the draft law for the 2024 budget, the recycling fee will be set at 0.3% of the basic calculated value (weight) of one car tire, measured per kilogram. The introduction of this fee aims to address the environmental impact caused by the improper disposal of car tires. The funds generated from the recycling fee will be earmarked for environmental protection initiatives and projects under the Yashil Makon program.
The recycling fee structure, based on the average weight of tires, is delineated as follows:
For Passenger Cars (Tires from R13 to R20):
- From UZS 6,200 ($0.50) to UZS 16,200 ($1.32).
For Trucks (Tires from R16 to R18):
- From UZS 11,300 ($0.92) to UZS 58,800 ($4.78).
The differentiated fee brackets for various tire sizes reflect the commitment to equitable contributions from both passenger car and truck tire segments.
Earlier Daryo reported that the recent Country Climate and Development Report (CCDR) for Uzbekistan highlights a pivotal moment for the country as it charts transformative trajectories amidst a projected population exceeding 50mn by 2050. Published by the World Bank, the report, examining the last seven years of comprehensive reforms since 2016, emphasizes the imperative for Uzbekistan to confront immediate challenges in its quest to evolve into an upper-middle-income nation with a contemporary, private sector-driven economy.
