In a move aimed at enhancing the efficiency of tax administration in Uzbekistan, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Economy and Finance with representatives from the Fiscal Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The gathering, spearheaded by Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Akhadbek Haydarov, saw the participation of key officials from the Ministry and the IMF mission, led by Vincent de Paul Kukpayzan. Other members of the IMF delegation included John Middleton, Supriyo De, and Modestas Kaseliauskas.
The focal point of discussion during the meeting was the comprehensive diagnostic assessment tool of the Tax Administration of Uzbekistan (TADAT). This tool, employed by the IMF mission during their visit to Uzbekistan in July of this year under the leadership of Vincent de Paul Kukpayzan, provided a final report that was deliberated upon.
The meeting underscored the reforms undertaken in recent years in Uzbekistan concerning the tax system and administration. The achieved results were thoroughly examined, shedding light on both strengths and weaknesses identified in the diagnostic assessment.
TADAT, which stands for Tax Administration Diagnostic Assessment Tool, is designed to objectively evaluate the main components of a country's tax administration. It utilizes 32 high-level indicators across 9 areas of activity to identify strengths and weaknesses.
Among the key topics discussed were the improvement of tax policy and tax administration in Uzbekistan. The reduction of the secret (hidden) economy, effective management of tax risks and disputes, and other issues crucial for the enhancement of the tax system were part of the agenda. The meeting facilitated an exchange of technical advice from the IMF representatives regarding potential strategies and measures.
As a result of the deliberations, both parties agreed to organize an additional meeting to delve deeper into the results of the mission studies. This ongoing collaboration between Uzbekistan and the IMF reflects a commitment to fostering a robust and transparent tax administration system, aligning with international best practices.
