The Uzbekistan National News Agency (UzA) has released a report detailing suicide statistics in the country, based on research conducted by the World Health Organization. The data reveals that nearly half (45%) of suicides in Uzbekistan are committed by individuals suffering from mental disabilities or of a nervous disposition.
The report further breaks down the causes of suicide as follows: family disputes (13.7%), financial and domestic issues (2.3%), drug addiction (1.7%), jealousy (0.7%), workplace conflicts and personal insults (0.3%), and various other reasons including disagreements with loved ones, academic failures, child loss or absence, financial loss, and conflicts with others (17.6%).
The report highlights a global decrease in suicides by 36% over the past two decades. However, it also points out that suicides have claimed more lives than wars and murders combined, accounting for one in every hundred deaths.
Globally, more than 1,900 people commit suicide daily, totalling approximately 750,000 individuals annually. The report does not specify the period for which these statistics were compiled.
