Uzbek Deputy Minister's criticism sparks controversy over X-Factor show

Uzbek Deputy Minister's criticism sparks controversy over X-Factor show

During a meeting with a group of artists, Uzbekistan's Deputy Minister of Culture, Bahadir Akhmedov, expressed criticism towards the "X-Factor" project. His comments addressed various aspects of the show, including its overall quality, the choice of songs performed, and the conduct of jury member Ibrahim Akhmedov.

Bahadir Akhmedov pointed out specific instances from the show, such as a participant performing songs from "Zona" and donning a hat to receive applause.

Renowned singer Shuhrat Daryo echoed the deputy minister's sentiments, expressing his disappointment for Uzbek art and the nation as a whole after watching the show.

These comments sparked widespread discussions on social media, prompting a response from the TV channel on their Instagram profile.

The channel clarified several key points in response to the criticism:

    1. "X-Factor" is not a competition but a global show featuring amateur performers. It evaluates participants not only on their vocal abilities but also on their stage presence and ability to captivate judges and the audience.

    2. The format of "X-Factor" is international, and in Uzbekistan, the project is filmed by FTV TV channel under a license obtained from the UK company "Fremantle Media." The show follows a common and unified script used in 56 countries worldwide.

    3. The show encourages the participation of non-professional amateurs without restrictions based on nationality, origin, or views, as "X-Factor" is a global show, and Uzbekistan is a diverse, multi-ethnic country.

    4. Participants in the "X-Factor" show are evaluated based on a simple "Yes" or "No" vote by the judges, without a complex scoring system. The channel recommended that the Deputy Minister watch a full episode of "X-Factor" to better understand its format.

    5. In response to Bahadir Akhmedov's comment about a participant singing "Zona," the channel clarified that the contestant's repertoire included parodies of various songs, including "Uzbekistan Gulzor," and foreign pop songs, highlighting a misunderstanding in the Deputy Minister's statement.

    6. Regarding Akhmedov's remarks about the judges, the channel noted that he had used inappropriate language, making disparaging comments about their dignity and qualifications.

The FTV channel emphasized that current Uzbek legislation prohibits harming the reputation, honor, and dignity of individuals.

In conclusion, the FTV team considered Bahadir Akhmedov's comments to be disrespectful and inappropriate towards the entire TV channel team and the participants of the "X-Factor" project.
