Russian drone manufacturer, Flyseeagro, has announced its plans to open a production line in Uzbekistan. The company specializes in producing drones for crop spraying purposes. The agreement to build the drones was signed in Uzbekistan's Navoi free economic zone.
According to Khabib Abdullaev, the CEO of the economic zone, the drones are specifically designed for agricultural applications and cannot be used for military purposes due to their distinct parameters. This ensures that the drones will be solely used in the agricultural sector.
Flyseeagro intends to invest $80 mn over five years in this venture. The production line in Uzbekistan will enable the company to export its agricultural drones to Russia and other foreign markets.
Russia has extensively utilized drones in its military offensive in Ukraine. However, the agricultural drones produced by Flyseeagro have different specifications and are not suitable for military use.
While Uzbekistan has not endorsed Russia's invasion of Ukraine, it maintains close economic and political ties with its former Soviet ally. In a related development, the US Treasury has imposed sanctions on 13 companies involved in the development of military drones used in Ukraine, including one based in Uzbekistan.
