The official visit of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to the People's Republic of China commenced with productive discussions held with Chairman Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The talks symbolized the enduring and robust partnership between the two nations.
In a grand welcoming ceremony, an Honor Guard formation was presented in honor of President Tokayev. Following this, the leaders, along with their respective delegations, commenced negotiations in the Great East Hall.
President Tokayev expressed his pleasure in accepting Chairman Xi Jinping's invitation to visit China for the 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. Kazakhstan has been a staunch supporter of the Belt and Road Initiative and has actively contributed to its success. Tokayev congratulated Xi Jinping on the remarkable progress made in the implementation of this mega-project, and he extended his best wishes for the successful hosting of this pivotal event.
He also conveyed warm congratulations to China on its 74th anniversary and praised the impressive performance of the Chinese team at the 19th Asian Summer Games in Hangzhou. Tokayev commended China's rapid advancements under Xi Jinping's astute leadership, describing it as a nation confidently on the path to becoming a global power.
Tokayev highlighted the positive trajectory of Kazakh-Chinese relations, reflecting the level of their enduring comprehensive strategic partnership. Both leaders agreed that their countries had developed robust interstate cooperation across various sectors.
"Trade between our states is developing successfully, with significant growth. The implementation of 52 joint projects with an investment volume of $21bn continues. 2024 has been declared the Year of Kazakhstani tourism in China, which will open up great prospects for this area. Favorable conditions are being created for mutual cultural and humanitarian exchange. I believe that Kazakhstan and China have enormous potential to elevate interstate relations to a qualitatively new level," President Tokayev stated.
Furthermore, Tokayev extended an invitation to Chairman Xi Jinping for a state visit to Kazakhstan next year, aiming to strengthen the ties between the two nations.
In response, Chairman Xi Jinping expressed his gratitude for President Tokayev's visit and the importance of bolstering mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. He welcomed Kazakhstan's participation in the Belt and Road Initiative and underscored the significance of stable and dynamic Sino-Kazakh relations in maintaining peace and stability.
Chairman Xi Jinping also reiterated China's full support for Kazakhstan's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the large-scale reforms being implemented by President Tokayev. He highlighted the progress made in the past decade since the inception of the Belt and Road Initiative during his visit to Kazakhstan.
During their discussions, the leaders focused on expanding cooperation in trade and economics, energy, transport, nuclear industry, mechanical engineering, and tourism, among other sectors. They stressed the importance of joint investment projects and cultural enrichment opportunities. Additionally, the two leaders exchanged views on current international and regional matters.
At the conclusion of the talks, several agreements were signed by the delegations of both countries, cementing their commitment to deepening bilateral relations:
- Memorandum of Understanding between the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reform of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the State Development and Reform Committee of the People's Republic of China for exchange and cooperation in the field of economic development.
- Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the People's Republic of China on the development of the Trans-Caspian international transport route, including container trains between China and Europe.
- Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the State Committee for Development and Reform of the People's Republic of China on the joint development of cooperation on the Tacheng - Ayagoz railway construction project.
- Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the People's Republic of China on the development of the Trans-Caspian international transport route.
- Protocol between the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China on phytosanitary requirements for the export of rapeseed from the Republic of Kazakhstan to the People's Republic of China.
These agreements signify a significant step towards strengthening the comprehensive partnership between Kazakhstan and China, promising further cooperation in various areas, ultimately benefiting both nations and enhancing regional stability.
