The government of Brazil is actively considering the establishment of an embassy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in a move aimed at enhancing diplomatic ties between the two nations. The matter was discussed during a meeting between the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United States, Furkat Sidikov, and the Ambassador of Brazil to the United States, Maria Viotti, in Washington on October 5.
During the meeting, Ambassador Sidikov presented Ambassador Viotti with his credentials as the newly appointed Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Brazil, based in Washington. Ambassador Viotti, authorized by the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, expedited the process of accrediting Ambassador Sidikov by obtaining a copy of his credentials.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of her government, Ambassador Viotti commended Uzbekistan's decision to appoint a representative in Brazil, believing it will enrich the bilateral agenda with new dimensions. Ambassador Sidikov emphasized Uzbekistan's keen interest in fully developing relations with Brazil and fostering substantial trade and investment collaborations in the agriculture, industry, and defence sectors.
Highlighting the robust economic ties between the two countries, Ambassador Viotti noted that bilateral trade turnover has reached an unprecedented level of $500 mn from January to August. Uzbekistan has emerged as Brazil's primary economic partner in the Central Asian region. The Brazilian side supported exporting various goods from Uzbekistan and proposed joint projects to export mineral fertilizers and food products.
Both sides agreed to organize a visit by Ambassador Sidikov to Brazil before the end of the year, where he will present his credentials to President Luis da Silva. The visit will also focus on engaging with prominent business circles, chambers of commerce and industry, commercial associations, and established enterprises, primarily emphasizing the economic agenda. Ambassador Sidikov assumed his role as the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the United States in February, and in May, he received his credentials from U.S. President Joe Biden, signifying the official commencement of his diplomatic duties.
