In a significant drug seizure, approximately 20 kg of heroin was discovered in a van with Tajik license plates at the Yallama checkpoint in the Tashkent region on the border between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan confirmed the findings, revealing that the illicit substance was concealed in 36 packages cleverly hidden within the lower part of the vehicle's interior.
According to the press release issued by the State Customs Committee, the van, registered in Tajikistan, they had arrived at the checkpoint ostensibly empty, according to the accompanying documentation. A thorough inspection uncovered the presence of 36 packages tightly wrapped in tape beneath the floor of the cabin. The contents of these packages were found to be a powdery substance emitting a strong and distinctive odour, later identified as heroin.
The State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, alongside other relevant law enforcement bodies, will continue its efforts to curb drug trafficking and maintain the security and well-being of the country. The investigation will likely involve cooperation among various national and international agencies to dismantle the drug network and bring those responsible to justice.
