The inaugural consultation meeting of the high-level working group concerning the transport corridor spanning Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Turkey took place in Dushanbe, as reported by the Ministry of Transport. The meeting featured the participation of experts from the Center for the Study of Transport and Logistics Development Issues and was conducted under the auspices of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
In line with the Ankara Declaration, which was endorsed during the 11th gathering of transport ministers from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), a consensus was reached to establish a project program aimed at advancing the multimodal transport corridor encompassing Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Turkey.
The meeting revolved around topics such as enhancing cargo transport and streamlining trade procedures, particularly focusing on fostering international transit for landlocked nations.
In June 2023, a collaborative effort involving Zhejiang Union of Railway Logistics Company, Uzbekistan Railways, and Kyrgyz Railway National Company State Enterprise will facilitate cargo transport via the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan multimodal transport corridor. Notably, this initiative has already commenced train operations.
Furthermore, during the same month, a container train was initiated, traveling from China's Xiamen port to Uzbekistan through Iran. This process involves shipping cargo containers from China by sea to Bander-Abbas port, where they are then loaded onto railway platforms within Iran's Bander-Abbas port and subsequently transported to Uzbekistan via Turkmenistan.
