On September 20, a significant video conference took place between Oybek Khamrayev, Deputy Minister of MIIT, and Muhammad Al Hasna, Deputy Minister of Investments of Saudi Arabia (SAP). This virtual dialogue centered on the current state of bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia in various domains, including trade, economics, investment, and energy, MIIT reported.
During the conversation, there was a notable acknowledgment of the positive experiences stemming from ACWA Power's involvement in various large-scale alternative energy projects across Uzbekistan. ACWA Power expressed its full commitment to providing comprehensive support for ongoing projects as well as future investment initiatives.
Furthermore, to expedite the implementation of agreements signed during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's state visit to Saudi Arabia in August 2022, discussions included prominent Saudi entities like SABIC, Saudi Telecom Company, Saudi National Bank, and others. The focus was on a range of sectors, including chemicals, telecommunications, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, banking, agriculture, retail trade networks, and more, with companies like Sulaiman Al-Habib Medical Group, Jamjoom Pharma, Al Rajhi International, Ajlan & Bros Holding Group, and Al Hokair Group.
The parties also explored prospects for expediting the completion and commissioning of various ongoing projects. Additionally, plans were discussed for the 6th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia on December 24-25, aimed at monitoring agreements between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia in trade, economics, science and technology, culture, sports, and youth.
In the aftermath of these negotiations, both sides expressed their strong commitment to enhancing cooperation and ensuring the timely execution of all agreed-upon initiatives.
Earlier Daryo reported that on August 30, a meeting took place between Bahromjon A'loev, Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan, and Jon Zaidi, ACWA Power's representative in Uzbekistan. This meeting provided an opportunity to discuss important matters related to the execution of ACWA Power's projects in Uzbekistan and to examine the potential for broader investment cooperation, particularly in the energy sector.
