A helicopter carrying three Kyrgyz citizens crashed in the Menderes region of Turkey, near the city of Izmir. The incident, which occurred during efforts to extinguish a forest fire, resulted in the helicopter crashing into the Takhtali Dam, according to a report from Knews, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan.
The report stated that the crash took place on September 16, 2023, at 23:53 local time. The helicopter had been involved in firefighting operations to combat the forest fire in the area.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey disclosed that there were four individuals aboard the helicopter at the time of the crash. Among them, three were identified as citizens of Kyrgyzstan. Currently, one of the crew members, a Kyrgyz citizen, is hospitalized due to the crash, while efforts are underway to locate and assist the remaining Kyrgyz citizens who were on board.
The Consulate General's personnel have been dispatched to the crash site to investigate the circumstances of the tragedy and to provide necessary support to the Kyrgyz citizens involved.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Kyrgyzstan reported that both the Kyrgyz Embassy in Turkey and the Consulate General of Kyrgyzstan in Istanbul are maintaining constant communication with the relevant authorities in Izmir. They are closely monitoring the situation and providing assistance as needed.
The crash has raised concerns about the well-being of the Kyrgyz citizens involved and underscores the importance of addressing the incident promptly and effectively.
