Japanese mountaineer Yuichiro Miura, known as the oldest person to conquer Mount Everest in 2013, has achieved a remarkable feat by ascending Mount Fuji at the age of 90, all while being in a wheelchair. This accomplishment was reported by Kyodo News.
Miura's final ascent of Mount Fuji commenced from the ninth station at 05:15 local time, with the aid of a specialized mountain wheelchair. Throughout the climb, several individuals provided assistance by pushing the wheelchair from both sides.
Approximately two hours after the start, the group successfully reached the summit of the mountain. Yuichiro Miura received a warm welcome from students of the Clark Memorial International High School, where he holds the honorary position of director.
Miura expressed his gratitude, stating, "Thanks to everyone, I was able to fulfill my dream and reach the summit. It's fantastic," as reported by the agency.
Notably, Yuichiro Miura had previously conquered Mount Everest three times, achieving the title of the oldest person to reach its peak in 2013. In 2020, he faced a health challenge, spending approximately eight months in the hospital due to a spinal epidural hematoma.
It's worth mentioning that, according to Kyodo News and the Japanese Mountaineering Association, the oldest individual to have conquered Mount Fuji remains Teiichi Igarashi, who accomplished this feat in 1988 at the remarkable age of 101 years and 10 months.
