Athletes competing in the premier women's league have declared a strike and plan to abstain from participating in the initial two rounds of the championship. According to Euronews, their primary demand is to renegotiate the collective contract terms in order to reduce the significant wage disparity when compared to male players.
In the first division, male athletes earn a minimum wage of €182,000, while their female counterparts receive only €16,000.
However, negotiations with their employers have not yet yielded a resolution. The Liga F matches, following the recent World Cup victory by the Spanish women's team, are set to commence on September 8.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Luis Rubiales, the embattled leader of Spanish football, has been provisionally suspended by FIFA for 90 days due to the aftermath of a World Cup kissing incident.
