On August 25, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution outlining plans for animal husbandry development in Uzbekistan, as stated by the country's Ministry of Justice.
The resolution calls for establishing a livestock identification system, which will allow for tracking and surveillance of the animals.
An Animal Identification, Registration, and Surveillance Centre will be created under the Veterinary Committee. The livestock identification system will initially be implemented in 25 livestock specialization districts by the end of 2024, with plans to extend the approach to the rest of the country within the next two years.
Besides, the resolution establishes 25 livestock clusters, which will provide $60mn in loans for various areas of development, such as meat and dairy production, ready-made feed production, livestock supply to households, and slaughterhouses. To enable this development, the resolution requires that at least 100,150 hectares of land be dedicated to fodder production in each area, achieved through a reduction in cotton and cereal crops.
The government will provide subsidies for livestock and poultry farms from September 1, 2023, until the end of 2025.
In addition, starting from December 1, a new system will be introduced for paying VAT on pedigree cattle imported by farms for their use. This system is based on a 180-day guarantee from the profile committee.
