UK Exports Minister Lord Offord visits Uzbekistan to strengthen trade relations

The British Exports Minister, Lord Malcolm Offord, has embarked on his inaugural official trip to Uzbekistan with the intention of strengthening trade ties between the United Kingdom and the Central Asian nation. The visit was announced by the British ambassador to Tashkent through the embassy's official telegram channel.

The Minister's visit comes at a crucial juncture, underscoring the UK's commitment to expanding its global trade network after its departure from the European Union. During his stay, Lord Offord plans to hold discussions with high-level officials from Uzbekistan's government, focusing on identifying opportunities for mutual economic growth and cooperation.

A significant milestone in the visit was the meeting between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Gayrat Fozilov, and Lord Malcolm Offord, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Exports) in the UK's Department of Business and Trade. The talks centered around the current state of bilateral collaboration and the potential areas for its enhancement, with particular emphasis on bolstering economic diplomacy.

Both sides reaffirmed their eagerness to take collaborative steps to elevate direct engagements between the business communities of the two countries. A key focus was the diversification of the range of goods exported from Uzbekistan to the UK, with a view to strengthening trade volumes. The parties also discussed strategies to attract major British corporations and financial institutions for the realization of joint ventures and projects within Uzbekistan.

The discussions were also marked by a comprehensive exchange of insights into the fulfillment of trade contracts, investment agreements, and previously established accords. The engagement extended to considerations of cooperation within international organizations, with a shared interest in fostering close collaboration during Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The visit of Lord Offord carries significance not only in terms of bilateral economic relations but also in the broader context of geopolitical dynamics. As both the UK and Uzbekistan seek to broaden their international trade horizons, this visit is poised to lay the foundation for a fruitful partnership, bringing about mutual benefits and shared prosperity.
