Subsequently, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan engaged in a private one-on-one discussion with Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, at the Zagulba residence. The discussions between the two leaders proceeded to an extended format, encompassing the involvement of the official delegations from both nations, as President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan continued their deliberations.

The ongoing visit program includes substantive discussions and negotiations, culminating in the anticipated adoption of bilateral agreements. Additionally, joint visits to Fuzuli and Shusha, as well as other collaborative events with both state leaders, are slated to take place.

The relationship between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan has witnessed significant political accomplishments:

Diplomatic ties were established early in the course of their respective independence, with a total of 13 high-level mutual visits having taken place to date.

Since 2017, heightened dialogue at the highest echelons has spurred a surge in delegation exchanges, marking over 70 high-level visits within a span of 6 years. In the same timeframe, 9 phone conversations have transpired between the leaders of the two countries. Moreover, interactions at international organizations' high-level meetings have been substantial.

A notable instance was the bilateral meeting of the presidents of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan within the SCO Heads of State Council in Samarkand on September 14-15, 2022, where Ilham Aliyev graced the summit as an esteemed guest. The collaborative efforts continued with a visit by I. Aliyev, accompanied by First Vice-President M. Aliyeva, to Samarkand on November 10-11, 2022, as part of the TDT Council of State Leaders' meeting.

Subsequently, on March 1-2, 2023, the President of Uzbekistan undertook a working visit to Azerbaijan for his participation in the Non-Aligned Movement summit.
