On August 5, Pakistan's court pronounced former Prime Minister Imran Khan guilty of corruption, disqualifying him from holding any future political office.
The trial was based on an investigation conducted by the election commission, which found Khan guilty of illegally selling state gifts during his term as prime minister between 2018 and 2022.
Following the verdict, Khan's PTI party reported that he was arrested. Although he has denied any wrongdoing, Khan can appeal the disqualification in a higher court.
As reported by the BBC, Imran Khan has been sentenced to three years in prison on charges of corruption.
