Tensions between Russia and Ukraine continue to escalate as Russian forces intercepted three Ukrainian drones over Moscow, leading to what the Russian defence ministry described as an "attempted terrorist attack." The incident occurred early on July 30 and resulted in one person being wounded, and two office blocks in Moscow's business district being damaged. Additionally, an airport in the city had to be briefly closed due to the drone assault. Photos from the site of the crash showed damage to the facade of a skyscraper, and the attack also wounded a security guard, reports Al Jazeera.
This is the fourth attempt at a strike on the Russian capital this month and the third one this week, raising concerns about Moscow's vulnerability to such attacks amid the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. The attack comes amid a Ukrainian counteroffensive to reclaim territory captured by Russia during its invasion in February 2022.
The situation has escalated tensions between the two countries, with Russia's foreign ministry accusing the Kyiv regime of receiving support from the United States and its NATO allies to carry out such attacks. On the Ukrainian side of the border, at least one civilian was killed, and five others were wounded in a Russian missile attack on the northeastern city of Sumy, as reported by Ukrainian authorities. An educational institution was destroyed in the explosion.
