State officials reported that a bus accident occurred in southern Mexico during the early hours of July 5, resulting in the tragic death of at least 29 individuals and injuring 19 others, informs Reuters.
The bus, which was en route from Mexico City through southern Oaxaca state, crashed in the town of Magdalena Penasco around 6:30 a.m. The incident is believed to have been caused by the driver losing control of the vehicle, according to Jesus Romero, the state interior minister. Fourteen individuals were taken to the hospital in Tlaxiaco, while five were airlifted to Oaxaca City, the state capital. Rescuers were seen working near the mangled wreckage of the vehicle, which rested on its side at the base of a steep cliff, as depicted in the images from the scene.
"We deeply regret the accident that occurred in Magdalena Penasco. Our government personnel are already working on the rescue operation and providing all necessary assistance to the injured," Oaxaca state governor Salomon Jara said on social media, expressing condolences to the victims' families.
Prosecutor's report shows that the tragic incident claimed the lives of 15 women, with two of them passing away while receiving medical care at the hospital. Additionally, 13 men and a child were among the fatalities.
