Uzbekistan Railways' press service reports on the launch of a new multimodal route, with a container train being dispatched from China to Uzbekistan.
On July 4, a ceremony took place to mark the departure of the first train, consisting of 40 wagons loaded with construction materials, from Langfan, China. The newly established route, known as Langfan-Kashkar-Irkeshtam-Osh-Tashkent, covers a distance of approximately 6,000km, and the total weight of the cargo surpasses 1,000 tons. The estimated travel time for the entire journey is around 12 days. Notably, this overland route currently stands as the shortest and fastest means of transporting goods from China to Uzbekistan.
The transportation process along this new multimodal corridor involves several stages. Initially, the goods will be transported by rail from the point of departure to the Kashkar railway station in China. Subsequently, the cargo will be transferred onto trucks for transportation to the Osh railway station in Kyrgyzstan. From there, the goods will be loaded onto a freight train and delivered by rail to Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan.
Prior to this, on June 9, the first train was launched connecting the three countries. It was sent from the city of Landjou in China and the total value of the train, which includes solar panels, mechanical equipment, carpets, and other goods was worth $2.5mn. This train arrived in Tashkent in 15 days, which is three days slower than the new route.
