Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedov pointed out shortcomings in agricultural work at a government meeting, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
"With proper observance of the rules of agricultural engineering, one could achieve better results," he said, ordering to ensure the timely and qualitative performance of tasks.
Now the harvesting of grain is coming to an end. There are plans to harvest 1.4mn tonnes of wheat from 690,000 hectares of land this year.
Fertilizing with minerals, vegetative watering, pest control measures continue in the fields planted with cotton. The annual plan to harvest this strategic crop for the local economy makes up 1mn 250 thousand tons from 580,000 hectares.
Most of the raw material is used to produce textiles, which have become a "trademark of Turkmenistan". Jeans and sportswear are ordered by some Western brands and distributed through the WalMart network.
Turkmenistan is also harvesting potatoes and sowing rice and sugar beets.
