According to Mao Nin, the official spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, taking steps in this direction and meeting the expectations of the international community will help the Taliban gain greater understanding, trust, and support worldwide, Sputnik Afghanistan reports.
She declined to comment on women's rights but mentioned that the measures taken by the Taliban to develop the economy, combat corruption, eradicate drugs, improve living standards, and strengthen public order have proven effective.
Earlier China's special envoy to Afghanistan, Yu Xiaoyun, has stated that China is not planning to recognize the government formed by the Taliban in Afghanistan in the near future. While respecting Afghanistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity, China emphasizes the need for practical confirmation of the Taliban's promise not to use Afghan territory for attacks against other countries.
Yu Xiaoyun made this statement during a two-day meeting of special envoys from 20 countries on Afghanistan, held in Qatar. This meeting marked the first international gathering of its kind since the Taliban's takeover in August 2021. China acknowledges the opportunity for Afghanistan to shape its own future after enduring two decades of occupation, but stresses the importance of the Taliban severing ties with terrorist groups and implementing effective governance measures. China's priority lies in witnessing tangible actions that support the Afghan government's commitment to ensuring a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.
