A case of bubonic plague has been reported on the border of Mongolia and China, Sputnik reports.
The patient, a 21-year-old man, was admitted to the regional hospital in critical condition, showing symptoms such as high fever. As a result, an infection control regime has been implemented at the hospital. The National Center for the Study of Zoonotic Infections has stated that a high alert regime has been in effect in the region for six days.
The patient is currently undergoing analysis to determine the exact diagnosis, and the results are still pending. Meanwhile, 40 individuals who came into contact with the patient have been isolated. The young man's condition is considered serious, leading to the implementation of strict infection control measures at the regional hospital.
In response to the situation, a special commission has imposed restrictions on the movement of residents in and out of the affected area and settlement for a period of six days starting from 02:00 on June 27. Additionally, the sale of alcohol has been temporarily prohibited, and all medical institutions in the region have been placed on high alert.
Bubonic plague is an endemic disease in Mongolia. Rodents and fleas living on them carry the disease. In Mongolia, most often human infection occurs as a result of eating meat from steppe gophers-tarbagans.
